THE BLUES RIFFS OF NOBBY REEDGuitar on my Back made the top ten in Blues Review and the top 20 in Seven Days last year. It's an album with all the expected guitar flash from the best blues guitarist in Vermont.
The opening cut is the autobiographical blues-rock ballad Out of the Bottle. A song cycle begins with the acoustic ballad, Where Does My Love Lie, includes the thunder and rain and the blues of I'm Cryin' Too with drummer Ric Bell, and the a capella work of art, River's Edge. Good Times, very popular in his live concerts, also appears on Best of Green Mountain Blues.
With its rich textures, Guitar on my Back showcases Nobby's mastery of the electric and acoustic guitar, along with his distinctive vocals and song writing. The material is a very personal history lesson as well as a nod to the influences to Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy and David Gilmour. Although Nobby performs all the guitar, bass, and vocals, the album also features Frank Barnes on bass for Good Times, Noble Francouer on bass for At the Bottom, Ric Bell, Jason Corbiere, and Richie Ward on drums. The CD was produced by Nobby and by Andre Maquera. Andre engineered it at West Street Digital in Fairfield.
Nobby opens for Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters May 8 and for James Cotton at the Discover Jazz Fest, June 11. He is also trading CDs with blues players in Greece, Australia, and Poland.
Nobby Reed has been part of the North Country music scene for more than 30 years Born in Sheldon Creek, Nobby has played with many well-known local bands including Greafe, one of Vermont's best known bands of the 70s, The Triads, Davis Brothers Garage band, and, currently, East Coast Muscle.
This album shows again that Nobby is a seasoned Franklin County artist who has paid his dues. Available at Jukebox CDs, Pure Pop Records in Burlington, and at Swanton Sunoco.
